A Few Notes About, Rules of Registry, DNA & Embryos:

Rules of Registry:

All animals should be submitted to Grassroots online registry before age two.

No Valais Blacknose sheep born in the US older than 24 months of age and not entered into a Registry or database elsewhere may be registered/recorded with the VBSS. No animal shall be accepted for inclusion into the database after it is two years old unless, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, the case merits special consideration. Registration fees will be doubled on animals not submitted before they reach 18 months of age.

About DNA:

Please visit our DNA Submissions page and follow the instructions outlined.

DNA Submissions

About Embryos:

All Embryo Transfer Registrations must be submitted online through the ET Registration Submission process.

Embryo Transfer Registration

If you are unable to access Grassroots, you may still register your sheep by completing the manual registration form below.

This option is intended for limited circumstances when online access is not possible. Because manual submissions require additional staff time for verification and data entry, a manual processing surcharge applies. We encourage members to use Grassroots whenever possible to ensure faster processing and reduce administrative costs.

Application for Recorded or Registered Stock

Registering a Lamb from Embryos: Sire and Dam are not currently in Grassroots.

If an embryo’s sire, dam, or both do not currently have pedigrees recorded in the Grassroots database, members must upload these documents along with the ET documentation (AI/ET Certificate of Service) to the portal (Embryo & AI Registration Submission Portal).

You will receive confirmation from the registrar that the sire and dam pedigrees have been added, and then you may register the lambs in Grassroots.
